What is the Friends of the Kennedy Museum of Art (FKMA)?

  • The Mission of the Friends of the Kennedy Museum of Art (KMA) is to inspire interest in art from both the university and town communities through supporting Kennedy Museum of Art functions and activities.

What does FKMA do?

FKMA supports, promotes and contributes to the mission of the KMA.

  • FKMA provides support for KMA efforts such as local school engagement with the arts, internship funding, and conservation efforts.
  • FKMA seeks to inspire interest in and create advocacy for the arts through special presentations designed to enlighten and enrich the art experience for members, students, and the community.  The Friends provide special programs and events for members and enhance the Museum programming and functions with special contributions and volunteer support.

How does FKMA accomplish its goals?

Memberships play an important role in the vitality of FKMA’s goal achievement.

  • Membership in FKMA, additional donations and fundraising efforts of the FKMA provide funding that supports the educational and advocacy goals of FKMA and the Museum.

How do I become a member of the FKMA?

  • Everyone who contributes to Kennedy Museum becomes a member of the Friends of Kennedy Museum. Join by mail (pick up a brochure at the Museum), on the website (https://www.ohio.edu/museum/support/membership.cfm), and at the kiosk in the Museum foyer.

How long do membership benefits continue?

  • The membership year is July 1 to June 30. Benefits continue if your membership is kept current annually.

Why does my membership contribution go to the OU Foundation?

  • Membership support goes directly to the Museum account in the Foundation where it can be budgeted directly for needs and expenditures.

Why am I also asked to contribute to the Friends?

  • FKMA seeks to support the Museum in ways beyond its routine funding. Direct donations to the Friends allow FKMA to assist KMA with unique projects and activities that are in keeping with the missions of KMA and FKMA.  [example: More than 50% of funds expended by FKMA supports educational exposure to the arts for local schools and the community.]

KMA Membership plus an additional contribution* provides membership in NARM.  What is NARM? (*https://www.ohio.edu/museum/support/membership.cfm)

  • NARM, the North American Reciprocal Museum program, is the largest reciprocal membership program in the world with members in the United States, Bermuda, Canada, El Salvador and Mexico.  NARM has 1,013 arts, cultural, and historical institutions along with botanical gardens, children’s museums, science and technology centers and more that offer their individual NARM qualified members reciprocal benefits.  These include: Free/member admission during regular museum hours, Member discounts at museum shops and Discounts on concert/lecture tickets.
